Both of the airport pairs will not face direct competition, while services on the 3,977-kilometre sector to Gaborone marks the first connection between the capitals of Botswana and Ethiopia. Both city pairs will be operated by the Star Alliance member’s 737-800s. Commenting on the launch of the two new services, Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam, said: “As a Pan-African airline working to bring African countries closer, as well as closer to the rest of the world, we are very pleased to spread our wings to Cape Town and Gaborone. Our new flights will give Ethiopian’s customers more and convenient connectivity options when traveling within and to/from the continent.
